The old man paused as they neared the end of the hall. A strange sigh greeted them... a door. The old man looked at it, and sighed with a weary slump of his shoulders. "I need a rest Tommy. Tell you what, you go take a peek up ahead and I'll catch up hm?" He really did look tired, puffing between every word and leaning so heavily on his staff it had begun to bend slightly. "Here, you can even take the map if you don't trust me..." he unslung the messanger bag and tossed it so it landed next to the door with a soft thump, stirring up large cobwebs and crumbling brittle bones to dust beneath it. Slowly and wearily he leaned back against the wall. "Just a minute Tommy, I promise!"

Greyhound strode calmly to the door, snatching up the messenger bag which contained the map and calmly removing the parchment from within. Without any expression, he gazed intently at it, attempting to decipher the marks upon it.

As Cyrus stepped into the next room a dreadful realization happened upon him. The 'map' was blank. The door slammed shut behind him and locked with an echoing 'click'. The room before him was round, with not other exists. The other end held a deep pool of black water, and a small writhered tree sat at its edge. Nestled amongst its roots was something wrapped in layers of spiders silken web.
The room was lit faintly by glowing mushrooms set into patches of moss. Bones covered the ground and spiders, most smaller then a fist, skittered about. Suddenly a loud clicking, fast paced, filled the air. A shadow moved somewhere near the cieling. With a high pitched shriek-click, the giant spider-like creature dropped into the center of the room, facing Cyrus and mandables clicking angrily. Its legs were covered in volcanic rock, which also covered its body beneath layers of coars spider-hair growing through the cracks.

Greyhound widened his eyes, immediately wheeling about to slam his body full force against the door... but, to no avail. He grit his teeth, the grinding sound almost audible to his outer sense of hearing as he turned to face the gigantic spider...
it HAD to be a spider.
It would've been 'such' a superior idea to kill the old man and head back to Kiilk... Now, he may not make it out of this. First, he used the time that the spider gave him to search about the room for a method of escape... But, to his dismay, found nothing. he then turned his gaze up, hoping to find something that he could use his rope to climb upon... While doing so, he removed his remaining two throwing daggers from his belt, occasionally shifting his eyes back to the spider.
The silken entrapment beneath the tree is what finally caught his attention... Was it a body? Or something else? He decided to focus on the spider now, slowly returning one dagger to his belt loop... The Depmir stinger had pierced rock. So perhaps it could be used on this thing if he could get onto it's back..? He gave up a silent prayer so an un-determined deity, before resolving himself to fight the beast. There was no other choice, it seemed...
If he died, it wouldn't be as a coward.

The spider clicked loudly. One leg slid to the side, knocking the cacoon aside. It made a strange clatter against the stonework. The spider seemed to be studying him for a long moment. Hissing, it suddenly tried to bull rush towards him and slam its front legs, which ended in sharp points, into him with a ear-bleeding high pitched shriek.

greyhound winced in pain as the spider screeched, barely recovering in time to do another of his completely idiotic maneuvers... He seemed to be trying too hard to keep up the assassinesque role he wished to obtain. He ran straight at the spider, bending almost entirely to the ground and leaping into the air. He placed his right foot on the spider's back, and jumped once more off the back... Something about that cacoon brought in immense interest to him... He suddenly bolted toward the wall it had slammed into, bringing back the arm that held the stinger and thrusting the tip through the webby shell.
Whatever was inside, he hoped it wasn't a choice he would regret... Otherwise, he'd have to actually face this thing with a damn stinger... Which, frankly, didn't seem that bad considering the near diamond level strength the weapon held, able to pierce stone and the like... But it simply wasn't long enough. The amount of times he would need to impale the spider would be far too much... Death, or a mortal wound, would be almost imminent.

The spider rammed head first into the wall after tripping...
Inside the cacoon was... a katana! The metal was stained and faded, and the blade was chipped and scratched. But definantly a katana! Why it was in a cacoon well... One look at the spider was all it took to answer that question. The creature hissed and spun unsteadly, shaking off its dizzyness. With another shriek it spat three globs of acid one after the other at Cyrus.

groaned again, a inward surge of joy nearly causing him to completely lose his composure at the sight of the blade. He quickly replaced his last knife into the sheath, and snatched the worn blade form the coccoon. He didn't intend to use it on the spider... But it could in theory bring a new tinge of strategy into this. As the acid globules approached him, he gripped both the stinger and katana tightly as he rolled to the side, getting partly to his feet and jumping once more to avoid the third and final ball. This put him infront of the pool of water... Which, gave him a thin idea.
Maybe he didn't even 'need' to get close to that thing with the stinger... Realizing this, he hooked the stigner back into his belt, and decided to risk one of his knives over a greater distance. He flipped it in his elft hand, catching it between his middle and index fingers and winding it back. With an almost silent sound, the blade cut through the air toward one of the spider's eyes... His goal was to anger it. Hopefully, it would be made to charge him once again.
He prayed once again to those non-existant Gods of his that the thing couldn't swim, and still needed to breathe.

From this distance the blade was off course, and instead removed one of the poisoned mandables. The mandable landed with a squishy thud, and the blade bounced off some of the volcanic rock armour. However it did succeed in angering it. With a ferocious sound that echoed in the large room it charge again. When Cyrus dodged its legs slipped on the slimy rocks and it crashed into the pool. Which wasn't quite deep enough to drown it. However it did slip, landing on its back next to the edge of the pool. Its legs twitched, wild and angry as it tried to flip upright again.

Greyhound took the opportunity that was given to him. He took a few quick, well-placed steps forward, swinging the katana downward, holding it vertically in an attempt to pierce what he hoped was the mutant arachnid's soft underside. If not, he was likely to get struck by one of the flailing legs. He was unable to take note of the mandible that had fallen, being too focused on positioning himself to where the aforementioned strike could 'not' accidentally happen.
The issue after this, would be if the thing died... if it did not, he would have to resort to getting in even closer to use the stinger.

The thing shrieked, its legs shooting straight up as its body convulsed, stiffening. Then the legs curled in, points stopping inches from Cyrus. It did not move.
The door slammed open, the old man standing there. He did not lean on his staff. He did not shake with frailty. He shook...with rage. Reaching up he furiously ripped the cloak off. "MOTHER! YOU MONSTER! YOU KILLED MOTHER!"
The man was thin, stick thin, and great long black spider legs lifted him off the ground. Scraggly thin white hair like webbing fell about his gaunt face, his eyes completely black and glossy... all eight or so of them....

Greyhound growled with bloodrage as he turned to face the old man... Somehow, he knew it would come to something like this. He took a few steps toward him, stopping in a seemingly wide open stance as he eyed him. "Mother? You're one of those freaks too, eh..? Well... I admit. I probably could've killed you back there and saved myself the trouble of having to hear your damn voice again." He seemed entirely confident... But in the reality of things, he was not. This was merely a ploy to attempt to enrage the mutant beyond the point of effective strategy. Though now... With the extra reach provided by the katana he had found, it would add a measure of tactic to his own end as well.
Greyhound's eyes fell onto the mandible upon the ground near the man, then grasped the stinger tightly in his left hand... If he couldn't kill him before he got there, he could make this a sadistically humorous situation by killing the faux-codger with his own 'mother's' venom...

The old man shrieked. "BILLY JOE! YOU WORTHLESS SCRAP OF MEAT!" he crouched low and jumped, one of the long pointed legs with sharp ends attempting to slash across at Cyrus, whose name he still couldn't get right.

Cyrus grinned widely, surprised that the mutant's character was not an act either... It was one-hundred percent legitimate. Clearly, it wasn't just a physical mutation, but a mental defect came along with it. As the nameless mutant attacked him, Cyrus held the newly found katana vertically, bringing it across in an attempt to meet the old man's appendage, possibly wounding or severing it from the hard contact with the blade's edge... If it were merely stopped, he would follow up with a quick switchup into a horizontal slash. On any other target, it would merely gut them and cause a plethora of intestines to spill to the floor. But, judging by how thin this mutant was, it would be a clean cut in two from this range.
"Name's Greyhound you worthless Mama's boy!" He would proclaim.

The appendage bounced off the blade, volcanic rock chipping off. The expression was one of shock as the mutant fell one way, his lower body falling the other. And that was that. (Theres still his bag, feel free to take it/rummage through it. And theres whatever else you think might be useful from the creatures.) As the blade cut through him, it sizzled slightly and the flesh it had cut through seemed to pinken slightly, the blood changing from venomous green to ordinary red where the blade had touched.

Cyrus stood in a state of suspended disbelief... He hadn't seen the coloration of mutant blood change ever before. Not even when he had done the slaying with his (Now outdated) CQC knife. He kept his eyes on the blade, suddenly realizing why it was in a cocoon on it's own... 'Mother' had known it was a danger to her, so had set it aside in what she presumed was a safe place. Perhaps the blade had some sort of anti-mutagen property to it? The odds of that were low... But it was clearly worn from use, and the metal was in quite good condition. It couldn't of been that old... Despite his curiosities, there was nothing to be done about them at the moment. Once he got out of here and was able to return to Kiilk, he could experiment with it in different scenarios... Possibly sharpen it, along with his knife finally.
Unable to sheath it, Greyhound held it in his right hand as he walked toward the Mutant's pack. Without looking in it, he dropped the Depmir stinger inside in order to free up a space on his belt. He then walked toward the robe that the mutant had taken off, regretfully deciding to cut a piece from it... It'd probably lower the value of it in the shop, but what he was going to use it for may be even more valuable...
Greyhound took the piece of the fabric to where the Mother's mandible had fallen off, using the thick, layered up fabric as a glove, then using it to wrap it. This, he also placed in the pack which he now slung onto his back. Walking to the corpse, he dealt the faux-old man a final, sound kick to the head. He made his way quietly out of the room, gripping his katana tightly in preparation for anything else that would hinder him on his way out. He would follow the route they had come back to the crack, and up to the dreadmares unless someone or something hindered him.
