Greyhound stopped dead in his tracks, staring dumbly at the man as if he had, finally, realized that he was absolutely batshit insane. Lost in the rapt state of disbelief, he took a few moments to himself, resolving to his own violent thoughts of murder and neck snapping... It would be so easy to just do so, take what he had, and leave him here. Plus, those two dreadmares might fetch a cap or two back in the city...
No. He had come this far... he 'had' to atleast lay eyes on this 'god fruit'. Nodding slowly, he pointed to the right. Bones could be used as weapons if whatever was lying in wait down there caused him to lose what he had come prepared with.
"If it's fruit you're talkin'... Whatever cleaned off those bones might be an omnivore. We'll check out this branch. Don't feel like getting slime all over my boots."

The old man gave him a shaky salute and led the way. Not ten minutes in they rounded the bend and entered an open cavern, with a river cutting through and a long stretch of bridge their only method across. The bridge was built of rock and seemed sturdy enough. "Laddys first Jimmy" nodded the old man erratically towards the bridge.

Greyhound did not like the look of the cavern one bit... As they entered, he immediately did a slow 360, taking in the surroundings and attempting to assure nothing could jump on them. He walked toward the bridge, obliging the old man's terribly worded 'request' and making to go across first. As the one in charge of escorting the man, it only seemed proper... And Hell, who knows what this 'fruit' could do if it existed... If it turned out to be real, and turned out to have a real benefit, the answer was clear. The old man would die, and he would reap the benefits of both the fruit, and his monetary belongings... A bit of a neanderthal's approach, but, he would be dead soon anyway given his age and physical condition.
He took his first tentative step onto the bridge, striding confidently acrossed it when he found that it held and supported his weight.

The old man stopped him halfway across the bridge. "Hang on hang on..." he sifted through the bag and pulled out a rolled piece of parchment and carefully unfolded it and checked it, hiding the surface from Cyrus' view, then returned it to his bag. No doubt it was his so called map. "Yes yes, not far now Patrick!" He pushed past Cyrus, but stopped two steps ahead of him.
Something crawled from the water, scrabbling onto the land and then onto the bridge, blocking their progress. The flat reptilian creature growled in a rattling rumble, twin scorpian tails poised over it. "Oh dear...there you go I think he's talking to you!" squaked the old man, hiding behind Cyrus quickly and pushing him forward a step. The Depmir hissed and started to scramble forward a few steps.

Kept his gaze on the old man as he pulled out his 'map'. Staring impatiently until he put the map away and pushed him aside... Only to be immediately put on his guard by the hsising sound of the strange beast. As it emerged from the water, he immediately shot both hands to two of his throwing knives, backing uo in order to get the old man to do so as well. "get to the other side of the bridge..." Was all he said. Unfortunately, he had never seen one of these things, and was thus unsure if it had an exo-skeleton or not...
There was nothing to do but hold his ground until the man was clear of the bridge.

The man huffed loudly. "Oh come now Larry! You can handle a little lizard! Back in my da- eek!" he stumbled, tripping over a piece of rubble. The sound spurred the Depmir into sudden violent action. It fast-crawled across the bridge and both stingers came down in Cyrus' direction.

let loose a vehement oath, waiting til just the last moment to sidestep the stingers. They came down just inches away from him, tearing the left coat-tail of his trench-coat on it's deadly path. he quickly maneuvered around behind it, hoping the stingers would come off with this little attack of his... He used his keen throwing knives as melee weapons, swiping inward at the tails with all his strength... Ofcourse, the old man was now wide open as Cyrus was behind the beast. But frankly, the codger was not important to him. His own life was... And the fact he had nothing to get through that armor, did not bode well for that concern of his.

The Depmir let out a snarl of agony. The blades had bitten deep into the flesh, almost but not quite completely removing the stingers. Acid splashed into the stonework, and a few drops hissed as they ate tiny holes into the side of Cyrus' shoes and the end of his coat. One stinger, jammed in the stonework, was ripped off as the tail whipped back. The other flapped limply.
With a ferocious snarl of rage it rushed towards Cyrus, rising up on its back legs. Its tounge lashed out, cracking like a whip across Cyrus. A sound came from where the old man was, a shrieking high pitched cry, but Cyrus was too busy to look.

Greyhound utilized his keen speed to leap back as the tongue lashed out, but was not fast enough! The Depmir's tongue would wrap around his right wrist, which he had raised in an attempt to sidestep and cut the tongue, but, he was not fast enough. Using his utmost strength to hold on for a few seconds, he pulled himself forward with the Depmir's own strength and slashed upward at the tongue with his free hand. From here, he would quickly maneuver his now freed hand to hurl the throwing knife with above average accuracy in an attempt tos trike it right in the center of the face.
He, ofcourse, paid no heed to the cry as he was in the midst of a fight for his life... The sound of his grunts of exertion and the depmir's anger drowned out all else.

The Depmir snarled in pain and the thrown dagger lodged into the roof of its mouth. With an agonized cry it lashed wildly and fell over the side and crashing into the river, dissapearing below the black murky waters. The stinger that had come off still sat embedded slightly in the stonework, and the splash of the body hitting the river caused a small wave to crash over the stinger, cleaning off the acid.
The old man stood beside the lifeless body of what looked like a beetle, upside down with two mouths on its underside. A stinger was lodged brutally in its stomach. The old man looked completely unharmed and rather cheery. "Oh good, your done finally are you?" he asked, brushing past Cyrus and continuing towards the end of the room. "Your rather slow there Terry. Anybody ever told you?"

Greyhound groaned loudly at the loss of his dagger. Not taking heed of the old man until he had accounted for the damage to his boots and coat... He'd need to visit that crappy tailor. Again. Hopefully he'd get the caps from this old man to replace that lost knife as well as fix his clothing... When he finally noticed, he arched in eyebrow in confusion... How did this old codger manage to take something down..? That right there, did not sit right with him.
"Anyone ever tell you you're old, Jim?" he responded in a snide manner, turning and following behind him this time. Apparently, oldie could handle himself. "How much farther 'til we reach this 'god fruit' buddy?" His voice was winded slightly, the unexpected skirmish with the Depmir having drained him from extensive muscle strain.

The old man pulled out his map again and tutted, careful to hide it from Cyrus' view. "Now lets see....a left here and oh... is that a trap or a shortcut? hum..." he tapped his foot, then turned it upside down. "Ooooh I see, silly me..." he chuckled and continued to peer at the map for a solid ten minutes. "Lets see.. if we take two lefts... then a right...and three more rights...we should find it..." From his description it sounded suspiciously like he had just described walking back out the way they had come in... in a long about way.

Greyhound seemed to snap. Staring unbelievably at the old man once again as if he had asceneded to an entirely new level of senility. Keeping this state perpetual, he turned and walked with an unbalanced step toward the stinger he had severed from the Depmir... Despite the fact it lacked poison, odds are that acidic blood was still within, sort of like a bottle or a vial or something... Either way, a new weapon was always welcome. Especially now since he had lost one of his knives by lodging it in the damn things mouth. He grasped onto it, pulling it out from the stonework... It must be sharp and durable if it were capable of stabbing a stone bridge and staying in one piece.
Armor penetration... Handy.
Perhaps once he got out of here and returned to Kiilk, he could make a new sort of dagger out of the tip... Hell, poison wasn't even necessary.
Turning back to the old man, he hooked the stinger onto his belt and said, "Ya know? I think you'd better let me see that map..."

The old mans shoulders tensed and he snapped the map shut, speaking in harsh tones. "No no! I know where Im going!" he spun and started off down yet another hallway. "Almost there Im sure! Just two more rooms!" he huffed, sounding mildly offended.

Greyhound shook his head once again. Perhaps it would be better for him to take this man down. It'd be easier on the both of them really... No more annoying singing for Greyhound, and no more super strenous walking for the old man who was undoubtedly going to die soon anyway.
Maybe he could leave the next Depmir to him or something...
"Running out of chances old man..." He muttered to himself, following in apparent silence just behind the man. His suspicions that the 'god fruit' did not exist were becoming a reality.
